Naja samarensis.
(Peters, 1861)In 2011, 1 young couple of this species are acquired. And they are already one of my most favorite species of cobra's. These beautiful Naja's have a great attitude and will not hesitate to come towards you. Soon a second pair of a different bloodline will be added to create unrelated pairs.
Naja samarensis is one of the smaller species of cobra's. This makes them, in combination with their great speed and temperament a very hard species to handle compared to the more bigger species that can be more safely tailed. Also there is no antivenom available for this species.
Adult animals will be kept separately outside the breeding period. This is much saver because of their nervous temperament and really fast feeding response. Also it improves breeding behavior.
As a substrate a mix of cocopeat and reptibark is used with a little moss. A big water bowl is placed on the cool side. Ones ore twice a week the terrarium is sprayed to enhance the humidity.
